CON HATFIELD
BAISDEN, W.Va. — Con Hatfield, 91, of Baisden, went home to be with the Lord at Logan Regional Medical Center following a long illness, on October 19, 2014.
Born on March 3, 1923 at his home in Simon, W.Va., he was the son of the late Otis and Francis Lawrence Hatfield.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife Merlie Cline Hatfield; eight sisters: Ruby Hall, Mavis Hatfield, Truby Toler, Macie Hatfield, Corby Browning, Grace West, Madge Hatfield, Medie Hatfield; and six brothers: Eliot, Don, Clarence, Homer and Alex Hatfield.
Mr. Hatfield was a veteran of WWII where he served his country proudly in the United States Air Force in England. He was also a retired coal miner from Jumacris mining company.
Survivors include his son Danny and his daughter-in-law Karen Hatfield, with whom he made his home; two grandchildren: Melissa Burgess of Winfield, Ala. and Kara (William) Vernatter of Peach Creek; four great-grandchildren: Heather and Hannah Burgess and Tyler and Kalee Vernatter; additional survivors include two sisters: Hilda Morgan of Clear Fork and Ruth Conley of Florida; three brothers: French Hatfield of Coal City, Hershel (Fern) Hatfield of Alderson, and George (Judy) Hatfield of Glen Morgan; a sister-in-law, Kathleen Hatfield; and one special niece, Vikki Sims of Beckley; as well as a host of other nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 22 at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel in Gilbert with the Rev. Joaquine Ooten officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 - 9 p.m. on Tuesday.
Burial will follow in the Cline Family Cemetery at Baisden.
Pallbearers will be Roger Cline, Richard Mounts, William Vernatter, Ryan Lockhart, Doug Viars, Larry Ellis and Todd Nunley.
He is gone from our sight but never from our hearts.
Mounts Funeral Home of Gilbert is in charge of arrangements.
