Martin J. Marty Powers, of Taunton, died unexpectedly Thursday, Nov. 14, in Morton Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Margaret A. Pegge Powers. He was born 73 years ago in Taunton, the son of the late Martin and Rose (Martin) Powers. A lifelong city resident, he was educated in Taunton and attended Bentley College in Waltham. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed as a State Auditor for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for over 30 years. Following his retirement, Marty assisted on services at the Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home for a number of years. He was a life member of the Taunton Lodge of Elks, served on the Finance Committee of St. Jude the Apostle Parish, was a member of the A.A.R.P., a volunteer for the Special Olympics, and was a former Little League coach. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing and quahogging, spending time at Bay View in Bourne, and he especially loved sharing time with his grandchildren and attending all of their events. He was a communicant of St. Jude the Apostle Parish in Taunton. In addition to his wife, he leaves 1 son, Brian M. Powers and his wife Flor of Saunderstown, R.I.; 2 sisters, Margaret M. Litzen and her husband Roy of Raynham, and Mary E. Brothers and her husband Alan of Taunton; 3 grandchildren, Andrea, Kevin and Ashley Powers; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held from the Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street, Taunton, Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 9 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will follow in St. Jude the Apostle Church at 10 a.m. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
