Phyllis B. Jones

Phyllis B. Jones, 90, of Brockton, died Feb. 11, 2013 at St. Joseph Manor, where she had been residing for the past year and a half. Born in Brockton on Dec. 7, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Emil P. and Jennie B. Ohmert. A 1940 graduate of Brockton High School, she also attended Sargent College at Boston University. Phyllis was a member of Rockne House and Camp, which was created for women by the late Doris Brooks, and a past President of the Knute Rockne Association. She received the highest honor given by the association, the big R for leadership and sportsmanship. She was a lifelong resident of Brockton until moving to Hollywood, Florida from 1978|2011, where she was a member of St. James in the Hills Episcopal Church. She retired from the offices of Knapp Shoe Co. in Brockton after 25 years of employment. Phyllis was married for 64 years to Melbourne Bud Jones Jr., a Brockton firefighter, and was also married earlier to the late Frederick Nelson of Brockton. She is the beloved mother of Michael D. Jones of Franklin and Betty-Jane Young and her friend Joyce Charette of N. Attleboro; loving grandmother of Joshua Young of Milford and Julie Young of Boston; John Cashman and Michael Jones of Franklin; great-grandmother of Alexandra and Ella Young of Marlboro; sister-in-law of Gordon Jones of E. Bridgewater; and an aunt of many nieces and nephews and a dear friend of many. All are welcome to gather at Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St., Brockton on Monday, March 4, for a memorial service. Visiting hours are between 9 - 10 a.m. and the memorial service will begin at 10 a.m. Guests are invited to join a luncheon upon completion of the funeral services. Visit or call 508-583-7272.
