Marianne Wroble-Cox Obituary

Marianne Wroble-Cox, 85, formerly of Whitman and for the past 10 years a resident of Evergreen, Colorado, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2018. Born and raised in New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Matilda Wroble. She earned her degree from Fairleigh-Dickinson University before beginning her broadcasting career in the mid-1950s under her maiden name "Marian Wroble" at WCCM in Lawrence, then later at WCAP in Lowell, where she met her future husband Reg Cox. A local celebrity for more than 50 years, she was a longtime radio personality on WBET (and briefly on WOKW) where she hosted "Polka Holiday", a polka music program with a devoted following, on Sundays from 1963-2004. A gifted interviewer, Marianne also hosted a daily radio talk show she dubbed "Conversations" for many years where her guests ranged from local civic officials to Hollywood celebrities. A lifelong lover of the performing arts, she served as WBET's entertainment editor and as movie and theater critic for The Enterprise newspaper in Brockton. She was a distinguished member of Altrusa International, a prominent professional womens service organization, having served multiple terms as President of the Plymouth County chapter and as Governor of Altrusa's District One in the 1980s. Marianne was the wife of the late Reginald E. Cox Jr.; beloved mother of Gerard R. Cox and his wife Catherine of Arlington, Va., Michael W. Cox of Brockton, and Timothy P. Cox and his wife Joy of Evergreen, Colo.; loving grandmother of Adam, David, Alex, Caroline, Samantha, Julia, and the late Christopher Cox; and the dear sister of Robert Wroble of S. Dartmouth and Naples, Fla. All are welcome to calling hours Sunday, Oct. 14, from 3-6 p.m. in Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St., Brockton, funeral from Waitt Funeral Home Monday, Oct. 15, at 8 a.m., her funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in Holy Ghost Church in Whitman and burial at St. James Cemetery. Marianne Wroble was truly a staple on Sunday radio. She had such a pleasant sounding professional voice, that you knew who you were listening to immediately and you were glad you tuned in to catch her polka Holiday program. And what a run! 41 years! God Bless Her!
I knew people who were Irish, Greek, Italian,Portuguese, British, Polish who loved that show and she ran it beautifully. Rest In Peace Marianne and thanks for the wonderful entertainment and pleasant memories.

To Marion's family. I met your mother years ago through the Yuskaitis family. It was always a pleasure to be in her company and to tune into WBET. Hopefully memories will sustain you at this time.

To the Cox Family:

I think Marianne tolerated me because my wife is half Polish.
She was a gracious lady and loved by all.
She had a loyal and "Large" audience.

Requiescant in Pace!
