Christos George Tsaganis, 87, of Brockton, passed away Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Bessie Peter (Cappos) Tsaganis. Born Jan. 6, 1926, in Vromosella, Arcadia, Greece, he was the son of the late George and Vasiliki (Pechilis) Tsaganis. Chris served as a lieutenant in the Greek Army before seeking his fortune a long boat ride away in Canada. Visiting relatives in Brockton in 1955, he met native Brocktonian Bessie Cappos, who became not only his loving wife, but lifelong business partner. Together they operated Peters Lunch before opening Christos Restaurant in 1964. Chris was a dedicated member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church. He was also an active supporter of many community organizations. He is survived by his daughters, Maria C. Samson and her husband David of Brockton and Gigi D. Johnson and her husband David of Brockton; his grandchildren, Isaiah Samson, Zoe Samson, Edith Samson, Michael Johnson and Peter Johnson; and his brothers, John Tsaganis and Nick Tsaganis, both of Greece. He is also survived by his dear Godchildren; and his beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was the grandfather of the late Christos Samson and brother of the late Dina Karalis. Funeral services will be held in the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 457 Oak St., Brockton, Tuesday at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Melrose Cemetery, Brockton.
