Mario Olivieri Obituary

Mario J. Olivieri, 90, of Lakeville, formerly of Brockton and West Bridgewater, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2011, at West Acres Nursing Home, after a long period of failing health. He was the husband of the late Mary (Scaduto) Olivieri. Born Feb. 16, 1921, in Catania, Mineo, Sicily, he was the son of the late Giovanni Olivieri and Maria (LaMoli) Olivieri. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Olivieri was a retired paver for the City of Boston, where he worked for over 35 years. He lived in Boston for many years and then lived in Brockton for 15 years, eight years in West Bridgewater and lived in Lakeville until his death. He was a former member of the DAV and loved to fish, cook and gardening. He was the father of John Olivieri and his wife Barbara of Lakeville and Marie Gromko and her husband Michael of North Easton; grandfather of Kim Payson of Hopkington, John Olivieri of Lakeville, Derek Gromko of Connecticut, Kenneth Olivieri of Lakeville, Kerry Peroni of Lakeville; and 13 great-grandchildren; brother of Josephine Costanzo of Winthrop. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St. (Rte. 123), Brockton, Friday at 9 a.m. thence to Our Lady of Sorrows Convent, 261 Thatcher St., Brockton, where a funeral Mass will be celebrated for the repose of his soul in the Convent Chapel at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton. Calling hours in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home Thursday 5-8 p.m. Donations in Marios name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472.
