Mary E. (Heirty) Ahern, 83, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died at Wesley Woods in Newnan, Ga., Sunday, Feb. 28. She was the wife of the late Charles C. Ahern. Born in Boston, she was a graduate of Jeremiah E. Burke High School for Girls. She was a resident of Stoughton for 54 years before moving to Newnan, Ga., three years ago. Mrs. Ahern was a housewife, taught CCD at St. James Church and was a bookkeeper at Immaculate Conception Church, both in Stoughton. She was a longtime member of the Mass. Catholic Womens Guild. Mrs. Ahern is survived by her children, Mary Ellen Rubenzahl and Charles C. Ahern Jr. and his wife Gina, all of Newnan, Ga.; as well as her grandchildren, Christopher Jardin, Daniel Jardin, Michelle Ahern Mischley, Danielle Ahern Edwards, Brendan Ahern and Megan Ahern. She was the sister of Charles Heirty Jr. of Stoughton and the late Anna Heirty. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rte. 27), Stoughton, Friday from 9-10 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton, at 10:30 a.m. Burial will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton.
