Nicholas Ferwerda Obituary

Nicholas Ferwerda, 84 of Hanover died Feb. 21, 2012, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born in Holland, son of the late Albert and Willemha (Weirsma) Ferwerda and was raised and educated in New Jersey. He has made his home in Hanover for the past 40 years. Mr. Ferwerda served 20 years in the U.S. Navy in the foodservice department as a butcher. At the time of his retirement, he was serving on the U.S.S. Dewey. He later was employed as a meat cutter for Angelos Markets in Randolph and he also had served for many years as a custodian for the Norwell Police Department. In his spare time he enjoyed wood carving and golfing. Husband of the late Merrium W. (Collyer) Ferwerda; he is survived by his sons Nicholas C. and Albert C. Ferwerda of Hanover. He was the grandfather of Michael D. Ferwerda and great-grandfather to Michael D. Ferwerda Jr. The Ferwerda family welcomes friends and loved ones to celebrate his life Friday, Feb. 24, 2012 in the Magoun- Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union St., Rockland from 5-8 p.m. Funeral services will be Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012 at 10 a.m. in the funeral home.
