Norma Collins Obituary
Norma (Thomas) Collins, wife of Austin Red Collins, passed away after a long battle with heart disease on Oct. 30, 2013 at St. Annes Hospital, Fall River. Born in Taunton, daughter of the late Norman and May (Pierce) Thomas, Norma was a member of the Stone Church in Raynham, where she was a former Deaconess, member of the Couples Club, assisted with various fairs and harvest suppers. Educated in Raynham schools, she was a 1955 graduate of Taunton High School. Norma attended Framingham State College where she graduated with a teaching degree in 1959. She taught home economics for the Town of Berkley for over 10 years and also at taught adult evening classes at Bristol County Agricultural High School in Dighton. Norma was an assistant to the Director for the 4H program in Bristol County. A talented cake maker, she made many wedding cakes for family and friends. Well-known as a seamstress, she designed wedding dresses for her daughter and many other brides. One of her crowing achievements was designing and constructing all the costumes for the Raynham 250 parade Fife and Drum Team and Militia reenactors in 1976. She also worked for one of the local answering services in Taunton. Norma is survived by her beloved husband of 53 years, Red, and her children Pamela Todd and her husband Robert Lincoln Todd of Bridgewater, Lisa Carvalho and her husband Brian of Taunton, Kevin Collins and his wife Deborah of Halifax, Jeffrey Collins and his wife Heather of Easton and she was also the mother of Kimberly Anne Collins who died at the age of 6 days. She is the grandmother of Stephanie Todd, Bridgette Todd Smith, Kristen Todd Schultz, Victoria Todd, and Justin, Tyler and Haleigh Carvalho. Norma was looking forward to welcoming her first great-grandchild in May. She was the sister of the late Elaine Thomas Waterfield and Wayne Thomas and is the aunt to several. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service at the First Congregational Church of Raynham (Stone Church) Raynham Center on Monday, Nov. 4 at 11 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, Nov. 3 from 4 - 8 p.m. at the Crapo-Hathaway Funeral Home, 350 Somerset Ave., (Rte. 138 South) Taunton, MA. Interment is at Pleasant Street Cemetery, Raynham. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the scholarship funds at New Testament Christian School, 1 New Taunton Ave., Norton, MA 02766 or South Shore Christian Academy, 45 Broad Street, Weymouth 02188.
