Robert J. "Bob" McEwan, a lifelong resident of Stoughton, passed away in Brockton on Thursday, September 26, 2013 at the age of 74. Bob was born on January 14, 1939 in Brockton, Massachusetts and was a 1956 graduate of Archbishop Williams High School and a 1960 graduate of Stonehill College. Mr. McEwan worked for most of his career as an English teacher at Cardinal Spellman High School in Brockton. In addition to teaching, Mr. McEwan ran the schools drama club where he produced 47 musicals, 35 spring and countless other productions. Mr. McEwan thought of Spellman as his family. He believed that students needed to be aware of their potential both in the classroom and on the stage. To honor Mr. McEwans tremendous dedication and achievements, Cardinal Spellman High School established The Robert J. McEwan Drama Hall of Fame in 1996. Since its inception, the Hall of Fame has honored over 100 inductees for their involvement in the dramatic arts at Spellman. In addition to theater, Mr. McEwan loved spending time with his family and friends and cheering on the New England Patriots. Mr. McEwan was predeceased by his mother Gertrude McEwan, numerous beloved aunts and uncles and his cousin, Dr. John F. McEwan. He leaves behind Johns wife, Margaret P. McEwan, their three children Heather McEwan Mandosa, Christopher McEwan and Julie McEwan Swan and their families, extended family, his Spellman family and his beloved dog, Molly. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 from 4-8 p.m. in the Sheehan, Lowe & Powers Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 115 Monk Street, Stoughton. His funeral will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. from the Sheehan, Lowe & Powers Funeral Home, 115 Monk St., Stoughton, followed by a funeral Mass of Christian burial for the repose of his soul at 10:30 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church, 122 Canton Street, Rt. 27, Stoughton. The Rev. Thomas Bouton, officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton. All are welcome to attend.
