George F. Bickford, 90, passed away at home Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014. George was born in Brookline, Aug. 25, 1923, the son of Harry B. and Caroline (Conley) Bickford. He was a graduate of Brookline High and the Bentley School of Accounting. After receiving his degree in accounting, George enlisted and served in the Pacific Theater with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was honorably discharged in December of 1945. George began his career as an accountant with Kemper Insurance in 1946 and remained until his retirement in 1983. It was during this time that he and his wife Mary lived in Stoughton and George served on the Finance Committee for the town of Stoughton for many years. It was in 1984 when George and Mary moved to Ashfield to enjoy retirement. George served on the Ashfield Burial Ground Association overseeing the towns cemeteries. George and Mary would travel to Ocala, Fla., in the winter months and delight in the sunshine. Survivors include his three daughters, Kathy Kippenberger and her husband Ken of Shelburne Falls, Terry Nutter and her husband Dan of Stoughton, Jean Brozo and her husband Ed of Bernardston; two grandsons, Sam Kippenberger and his wife Kelly, and Glenn Brozo; a great-granddaughter, Gracie Kippenberger; and a great-grandson, Ben Kippenberger. Georges wife Mary predeceased him in 2004. A private graveside service will take place at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
