Obituary Condolences

Robert W. Small of East Bridgewater died April 9, 2014, at Kindred Care Northeast in Stoughton, at the age of 83, after a long illness. Bob was born in Millis, son of the late Catherine R. (Smith) and James T. Small. Mr. Small was raised and educated in Millis, graduated from Northeastern University and attended Providence College. He was valedictorian of his graduating class from Millis High School and received three degrees from Northeastern University. Bob was a member of the Lay Fraternity of St. Dominic for 51 years. He was one of the founding professors of Massasoit Community College where he taught History and Government until his retirement. He was also an instructor at Northeastern University, Boston and Weymouth campuses in the early years of his career. Bob contributed book reviews to The Sunday Enterprise often in the past, Fidelity magazine, the Dominican Torch magazine, and eLumen, a Dominican Laity online publication. Many of his book reviews are in community college libraries around the country. As well as being an avid reader, Bob liked to travel and worked for University Travel and Pan American Airlines at one point. He was the husband of Louise (Hughes) Small of East Bridgewater; father of Diane Verrochi of Conn., Robert C. Small of East Bridgewater and Nadine T. Small of Bridgewater; brother of the late James T. Small Jr., Rita Jordan, and Mary Small; grandfather of Daniel Petersen Jr., Taila Petersen, and Kylie Hirtle; great-grandfather of Riley Petersen; uncle to many nieces and nephews.
