Shirley (Eldridge) Hayward, 95, of Brockton, died May 6, 2014, in her own home under the devoted care of her family, caregivers and Hope Hospice. Born in Brockton, she was the daughter of the late Lester F. and Lillian I. (Bird) Eldridge. Shirley was a 1936 graduate of Brockton High School and had lived in Brockton and Wareham. She worked for the telephone company and worked as a school bus driver and cafeteria worker in the Brockton Public Schools. Shirley was a member of the Eastern Star, Rebecca Lodge for over 50 years. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, baking, puzzles, gardening and reading and was a member of the South Street Methodist Church and Pentecost United Methodist Church. She is survived by her children, Laurence K. Hayward and his wife Jeanne, Everett I. Hayward Jr. and his wife Susan and Karen Chubbuck and her husband David; her grandchildren, Michelle Silva, Laurence K. Hayward II, Billy Milne, Christopher Hayward, Justin Hayward, Jennifer Hayward and Jillian Hayward; her great-grandchildren, Steven Willis, Miranda and Willie Milne and Anya Pakhladzhyan; her great great-grandson, Dylan Willis; a sister, Beverly Morrissey; and several loving nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Buddy Eldridge. All services are private with burial in Coweeset Cemetery in Brockton.
