Stanley J. Usowicz, 69, lifelong resident of East Bridgewater, died peacefully May 19, 2014, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Stan was the loving son of the late Alfons and Lillian (Kaval) Usowicz and was a graduate of East Bridgewater High School, Class of 1962. Stan was in the United States Air Force from 1963 to 1967, serving in Okinawa and Thailand. After his tour he returned home to marry his high school sweetheart, Valerie J. Howarth, and they raised their children in East Bridgewater. Stan had a passion for anything involved with airplanes. He was a graduate of East Coast Aero Technical School and a lifelong aircraft mechanic, authorized inspector and pilot with instrument rating, multi-engine rating, and float plane ratings. He worked many years at the Middleboro Airport, Marshfield Airport, and later the Hyannis Airport where he was employed by AMA Nantucket Inc. for 18 years. He loved flying, camping, wintering in Florida, and visiting Cape Cod. He was an active member of his community and was proud of his involvement with various civil groups, East Bridgewater Kiwanis, Commercial Club, Standish Sportsmans Association, QBs, AOPA, EAA, VFW Post 697, American Legion, and Disabled American Veterans. He was the loving husband of Valerie J. (Howarth) Usowicz of East Bridgewater; father of Christine C. Boulette and her husband Shane of S. Yarmouth, Michael S. Usowicz of East Bridgewater and David S. Usowicz and his wife Elizabeth of Bridgewater; Grampa of Christiana, Samantha, Brooke, Hunter and Brodie; brother of Edward Usowicz of West Yarmouth and Alfred and wife Barbara Usowicz of Franklin. Visitation will be held Thursday evening, May 22, from 4-8 p.m. at the Prophett-Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 35 Spring St., East Bridgewater. A funeral service will be held Friday, May 23, at 10 a.m. at the Union Congregational Church, 105 Pleasant St., East Bridgewater. A coalition will be held at the East Bridgewater Commercial Club, 1 Nielsen Ave., at 12 p.m. Burial will be private.
