Joseph D. Elliott, 85, of Raynham and formerly of Braintree died peacefully on July 5. Joe grew up in South Boston, son of the late Alexander and Florence (Kearney) Elliott and was a graduate of South Boston High School. He joined the Navy after graduation, proudly serving aboard the USS Valley Forge. Joe married Helen Clark on April 7, 1951 and the two raised their nine children in Braintree. Joe owned and operated A.J. Elliott Inc. Trucking in South Boston and later Ambassador Brokers in Braintree, he retired at age 80. Joe was always known for his great smile, being the first on the dance floor, traveling the world, square dancing and playing gin rummy. Loving husband of Helen M. Elliott of Raynham, devoted father of Helen Wells and her husband Robert of Raynham, Joe Elliott of N.C., Terry Sprague of Marshfield, Cindy Randall of Malden, David Elliott of Kingston, Diane Koch and her husband Kenneth of Middleboro, Michael Elliott and his wife Olise of Plymouth, Ann Marie Dunn and her husband Scott of Plymouth, and the late Kathleen Eramian. Grandfather of 18, great-grandfather of 7 and predeceased by 8 siblings. Joe will be truly missed by his family and friends. Funeral from the Prophett-Chapman, Cole and Gleason Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St., Bridgewater on Wednesday, July 9, at 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Clare Church, 1244 Liberty St. Braintree at 11 a.m. Burial with Navy Honors will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery, Bridgewater. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the , P.O. Box 96011 Washington, DC 20090-6011.
