Leon T. Lee Thayer Jr., 81, of Brockton, died July 24, 2014. Son of the late Edith and Leon Thayer Sr., he was raised and educated in Avon. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a medic and then was an LPN at the VA and Goddard hospitals. Lee retired from Boston Whaler after 25 years there then was a custodian at Our Lady of the Rosary Church. As a Catholic devoted to Divine Mercy, he was a member of Friars Club. Lee enjoyed helping neighborhood ladies and animals, bird watching and gardening. Leon was the beloved husband of his high school sweetheart, Lorraine M. (Visgatis) Thayer for 58 years; loving father of Lee Anne Whalen and her husband John of East Taunton and Lloyd D. Thayer and his wife Jennifer of Watertown; grandfather of Danielle and Patrick Quinn; great-grandfather of Gabrielle Little G Rios; brother of the late Beverly Hatch; and an uncle of many. Following cremation, all are welcome to calling hours Thursday 4-8 p.m. in Waitt Funeral Chapel at Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St., Brockton, his memorial Mass Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Michael Church, Avon, and burial at Avon Cemetery.
