Clayton A. Holmes, 91, of Stoughton, died July 25, 2014. Born in Maine, he was a graduate of Stoughton High School and served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. He was a supervisor at Jones & Vining for many years before his retirement. Following retirement, Clayton returned to Maine with his wife, settling in the town of Mt. Vernon. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed gardening. Clayton was the husband of the late Eugenia J. (Matelis) Holmes; beloved father of Pamela J. Morrell and Thomas J. Holmes, both of Brockton; grandfather of Laura-Jean Godfrey, Christopher Cosgrove, Gerald Morrell Jr., Michael Cosgrove, Matthew Holmes and Sarah Clements; great-grandfather of 14; brother of Cora Chapman of N.H., Audrey Eagles of Brewster and Chester Holmes of Middleboro; and an uncle of many nieces and nephews. Following cremation, all are welcome to his memorial service, Saturday, Sept. 20, at 12 p.m. in the Cochesett United Methodist Church, 517 West Center St., West Bridgewater. Refreshments to follow.
