Roland E. Holmes, 92, of Brockton since 1952, died Aug. 3, 2014, at Champion Rehab Center. Born and raised in New York, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked at Avon Sole for 25 years, then at Whittemore Truck for 15 years and later worked as a security guard for Sargent Supply. He enjoyed home projects, gardening and model trains. Roland was the husband of the late Erika (Renner) Holmes; beloved father of Alan J. Holmes of Hanson and Sylvia A. Holmes of Taunton; loving grandfather of John Holmes, Michael Holmes and Joshua DeCarlo; brother of the late Claremont Holmes, Ruth McCombie, Thatcher Holmes and John Holmes; brother-in-law of Harold McCombie of Shrewsbury; and an uncle of many nieces and nephews. All are welcome to calling hours Wednesday 5-8 p.m. in Belcher Chapel at Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St., Brockton. Funeral service Thursday at 12:30 p.m. in Belcher Chapel.
