Charles R. Roth, 91, longtime resident of Whitman passed away on Sunday, August 29, surrounded by his family, after a period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of Dorothea (Martin) Roth. Charlie was born in Methuen, son of the late Robert and Lillian (Walters) Roth. He was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard during World War II. Charlie taught science at Brockton High School for 27 years, before retiring. After retirement he mowed lawns and refinished furniture and gardening. He was an active member of the Whitman Congregational Church, member of the Tri-Town masons for over 50 years and he was also the Past Master of the lodge, also a member of the Whitman VFW and the Shriner. Charlie collected cans to raise money for the Shriners. In addition to his wife Dorothea, he is survived by his son David Roth and his wife Yvonne of Taunton, his daughter Sabra A. Roth of Las Vegas; grandfather of Kristin, Kayla and Julie. His services will be held on Thursday, September 2 at 11:00 a.m. in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth St., (Rt. 58 at the rotary), Whitman. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 1 from 7:00-9:00.
