Kathleen Marie Pendrak, age 63, daughter of Dorothy Pendrak nee Tracy and the late Leon Marion Pendrak, succumbed to metastatic breast cancer on Oct. 26 in Brockton, MA. Kathleen was born in Utica, NY, grew up in Augusta Township in Oneida County, NY, and attended Madison Central School. She was honored as valedictorian of her 1967 class and received a National Merit Scholarship among numerous other awards for academic excellence in mathematics, science, and literature. She attended LeMoyne College in Syracuse, NY for two years as a mathematics major, where she was active in theatre production, but then pursued a career in the printing industry in the Boston area which lasted more than 40 years. She worked for Harvard University Publications for 14 years and for Pyramis Global Advisors Holdings Corp from 2007 until her death. In 2005, she received a BA degree in General Studies from Harvard University. Kathleen was the eldest of 9 children and took great pleasure in helping her siblings whenever she could. Her great compassion, humility and generosity were evident to all who knew her. Throughout her life her natural creativity and curiosity led her to expend great energy to master fine needlepoint and crochet using her original designs. She was an avid reader and lifetime student of the English Language, although she had a particular fondness for fantasy, science fiction and childrens literature. She also loved performing dramaticrecitations, especially of childrens poetry and stories. Kathy is survived by her mother, Dorothy (Woburn, NY), two sisters: Margaret Pendrak (Oneonta, NY) and Eileen Miller (Woburn MA) and six brothers: John (New Hartford NY), Michael (Bethesda MD) Steven (Worcester MA), Peter (Centennial CO), David (Providence RI), and Andrew (Houston TX), as well as her greatly loved nieces and nephews. She married Philip Theodore Blaine of Brockton, MA in 2007 who predeceased her in 2010. All are welcome to her memorial service Monday, Oct. 29, 2012 at noon in Belcher Chapel at Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St., Brockton.
