Frances R. Rita (Carey) Reed of Brockton, formerly of Dorchester and South Boston, passed away Jan. 31, 2013, at the age of 85. Born and raised in Boston, Frances graduated from St. Augustines High School in South Boston. For many years, she had worked at the Old John Hancock Building before getting married and raising her family. Frances was an over 40-years-long survivor of breast cancer, having been diagnosed in 1969. After her kids were grown, she returned to work at Cricket Lane in Brockton. Upon her retirement, she and her husband Jack spent many years traveling together, their favorite destination being Aruba. Spending time with her family and friends is what brought Rita the most joy. Rita was the wife of the late John F. Reed Sr.; loving mother of John F. Reed Jr. and his wife Donna (Aikens) of Rockland, Kenneth M. Reed of East Bridgewater, Donna M. Azar and her husband of George of Kingston and Deborah A. Mannett and her husband William of East Bridgewater; devoted Nana to Benjamin, Kayla, Andrew, Zachary, Sarah, Rachael and Ryan. Reposing at the Cartwright Funeral Home, 69 South Franklin St. (Rte. 37), Holbrook, until 8:15 a.m. Monday, followed by a funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in Christ the King Church, Brockton. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Sunday 2-6 p.m. Burial in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
