Gertrude M. (Smith) Conley, of Avon, died April 13, 2014, at Brigham and Womens Hospital after a valiant fight against breast cancer. Born and raised in Roxbury, she attended Boston Public Schools before moving to Avon in 1962 to raise her family where she lived for 52 years. She was a retired nursing assistant at the former Cardinal Cushing Hospital in Brockton. She enjoyed her family and her trips to Foxwoods and Twin River Casino. She was the daughter of the late Henry Havelock Smith and Freda (McDonald) Smith; beloved wife of the late James B. Conley; loving mother of Denise F. Sturtevant and her husband Ted of Avon, Paula Conley of Avon, Stephen M. Conley and his wife Susan of Boston, Catherine M. Shockley of Abington, Neil B. Conley and his wife Mary of West Bridgewater, Thomas E. Conley and his wife Patti, Scott A. Conley of Avon, and the late James H. Conley and Russell M. Conley. Gertrude is survived by 21 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; and her dogs, Chloe and Maxi, and her cat, Bella. Funeral from the Hurley Funeral Home, 134 So. Main St. (Rte. 28), Randolph, Thursday at 9:15 followed by a funeral blessing at St. Michaels Church in Avon, Thursday at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
