Janet Broadbent

Janet Broadbent of Plymouth died peacefully August 14, at the age of 93. Born in Plymouth, September 15, 1920, she was a daughter of the late Edgar N. and Mary F. (Cassady) Broadbent. She was a graduate of Plymouth High School, Class of 1938, and North Adams State College, Class of 1942, and Boston University, Class of 1946. Janet was an educator working in Plymouth, Sudbury, Duxbury and Bridgewater State College and an editor and educational consultant for Ginn & Co. Janet had been a member of the Church of the Pilgrimage since 1938. She belonged to the Order of Eastern Star, Delta Kappa Gamma-Educators Honor Society and the Plymouth Antiquarian Society. After her retirement in 1982, she volunteered at the Lutheran Nursery in North Plymouth, the Plymouth Public Library and did readings for the blind. She is survived by her niece, Helen Niemi of Plymouth; her nephews, Francis Broadbent of Florida and Herbert Broadbent of W.Va. She was the aunt of the late Carol Reid and John Broadbent. Also survived by several great-nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Edgar Frances Broadbent. A graveside service will be held Monday, August 18, at 1:30 p.m. at Vine Hills Cemetery. Visiting hours in the Cartmell Funeral Home, 150 Court St., Plymouth, Monday from 12:30 -1:15 prior to the graveside service.
