Albert A. Walmer Jr.

Albert A. Walmer, Jr., age 89, of Brockton, died peacefully, May 14, 2017 at St. Joseph Manor, with his daughter Jeanne and granddaughter Jessica at his side. He was the husband for 53 years of the late Margaret L. (Leonard) Walmer, the love of his life. Al was born and raised in Harrisburg, PA, son of the late Albert A. and Cora (Keys) Walmer, Sr. At the age of 17, he entered the Navy and served in the WWII, Korean and Vietnam wars. His Naval Unit marched in President Roosevelts funeral procession. After 21 years in the military, he retired in 1970 and moved to Brockton. He then worked as a Purchasing and Supply Agent for Brockton Hospital for 22 years. Al was a longtime member of the VFW and had been a Commander and Chaplain for the DAV in the 1990s. He and his wife were known for their faith and charity. For many years they operated the Walmers Barn/BAMSI Loan Closet, lending medical equipment to those in need. He was also a longtime communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes and Christ the King parishes and a member of the Brockton Hospital Retirees and Bertocci Club. He enjoyed attending his grandchildrens events and traveling to Oklahoma to visit his daughter. Al lived his faith and his daughter Theresa says he was born into poverty but died the richest man in love. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of St. Joseph Manor for the love and compassionate care he received. Albert was the father of Jeanne Marie Draughon and her husband Barry of Broken Arrow, OK and Theresa Ronan of Brockton, and grandfather of Kevin and Jessica Ronan and Ian Draughon. He was the brother of the late Mary Nelson and Joseph Walmer. Visiting Hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123), Brockton, Wednesday 4-8 p.m. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home Thursday at 9:30 a.m. for a funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 10:30am.
