Paul Oldfield Obituary

Paul F. Oldfield of Plymouth died peacefully at home June 11. He was the beloved husband of Susan L. (Nuckols) Oldfield. Born in Weymouth, Feb. 18, 1947, Paul was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Hines) Oldfield. He grew up in Cohasset and graduated from Thayer Academy and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Harvard University, Class of 1969. He served with the U.S. Army National Guard during Vietnam. An accomplished golfer and hockey player in high school and college, Paul lettered in both sports in college. He played on the victorious Harvard team in the 1969 Beanpot Tournament. In that same year, he was the Massachusetts Amateur Golfer of the Year. While at Harvard, Paul was a member of Kirkland House, the Hasty Pudding, the Combined Charities, and the Pi Eta Club. Paul was a longtime member of Plymouth Country Club and was a former member of Cohasset Country Club and Wannamoisett Country Club. He was a member of the New England Senior Golf Association and a former member of the Massachusetts Golf Association Executive Committee. Paul began his 40-year career in the Trust and Investment Services business at Industrial National Bank in Rhode Island. He returned to Boston as a portfolio manager with Boston Safe Deposit & Trust Company. In 1983, Paul assisted in establishing a successful Cape Cod presence in Falmouth for State Street Bank and Trust Companys Trust Division. During Pauls 25-year tenure with State Street, he served in a number of roles beginning as a portfolio manager and retiring as the Chief Investment Officer for the Trust Division in Boston. During his years at State Street, Paul was known by clients and colleagues for his prudent investment advice and singular sense of humor, which are greatly missed. He was the brother of Peter Oldfield of Valley Forge, Pa., and Jeffrey Oldfield of Portland, Maine. A celebration of Pauls life will be held Tuesday, June 26, at noon at Christ Church Parish, 149 Court St., Plymouth. A private burial will be held at a later date at Woodside Cemetery in Cohasset. Memorial donations may be made to Tufts Medical Center Trust, 800 Washington St., Box 231, Boston, MA 02111, or Cranberry Hospice, 36 Cordage Park Circle, Suite 326, Plymouth, MA 02360.
