Pompeo, Joseph A.  
Joseph A. Pompeo of Canton, formerly of Stoughton and Quincy, died December 8, 2014. Joe was a graduate of the Quincy Voc Tech and worked many years at Kemper Insurance. He was a very spiritual man, becoming a Reiki master and traveling to Arizona with his wife. Joe was a Civil War buff and loved history, but most of all he loved his family. They were the most important to him and he will be sadly missed by all that knew him. Son of the late Raffaele and Clara Pompeo, he was the beloved husband of Rosalyn (Golub) Pompeo of Canton; cherished stepfather of David Adams and his wife Virginia of Holbrook, Wendy Arsenault of Quincy, and Steven Adams and his wife Christine of Quincy; loving brother of Ralph Pompeo of Braintree and Carmela Whitaker of Millis; devoted grandfather of Jade, Jenna, Nicole, Joshua, Anna, Michael, and Shayna. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours Tuesday 9-11 a.m. in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., Quincy, followed by a funeral home service at 11 a.m. where family and friends are welcome to share their memories of Joe. Rodgers Jr., James L.  
James L. Rodgers Jr., of Hingham, passed away Friday, Dec. 5, 2014. Jim was the husband of the late Phyllis (Weidman) Rodgers. Born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late James L. and Edith M. (Evans) Rodgers. He graduated from Cornell University in 1945 and served in the United States Navys Civil Engineer Corps as a First Lieutenant. After living and working in New York, California, and Pennsylvania, Jim settled in Hingham during the fall of 1963 as the System Company Vice President of the New England Division of American Water Works Company, Inc. He became President of that division in 1973, a role he held until his retirement in 1983. Outside of the office, Jim was an active member of the Hingham Congregational Church. He was a lifelong conservationist and an enthusiastic volunteer who supported organizations such as the Hingham Public Library, Weir River Watershed Association, and the Trustees of Reservations. The residents of local nursing homes benefited from his contributions as an Elder Affairs Ombudsman. In addition to being a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, Jim was an amateur genealogist, and a lover of maps, travel, and public transportation. Jim is survived by his son, Richard, and wife Carol of Chelmsford, Mass.; his son David of Quincy, Mass.; his daughter Kathryn, and husband John Darak of Londonderry, N.H.; his daughter Margaret, and husband Norman Lamonde of Hingham, Mass.; 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 27, at the Quincy Point Congregational Church, 444 Washington Street, Quincy, followed by interment at the High Street Cemetery in Hingham. Sherman, Louis  
Louis Sherman of Quincy died December 18, 2014. Beloved husband of the late Kathleen Sherman, he was the loving father of Kerry Sherman of Quincy; cherished grandfather of Erica Dedalonis; dear brother of Arlene Davis and Barbara Finkle; devoted uncle of many nieces and nephews. Louis was a partner in the HiFi Pizza and Restaurant in Dorchester for 30 years and was a Suffolk County Court Officer. Shortall, Betty F.  
Betty F. (Franzen) Shortall, 93, of Rockland died December 15, 2014, at the South Shore Nursing and Rehabilatation Center. She was born in Scituate, daughter of the late James and Besse (Burrows) Franzen, and was raised and educated there. After graduating from Scituate High School, Mrs. Franzen enlisted in the Navy and served during World War II. She had been employed as a teachers aide at the Jefferson School in Rockland, H.H. Arnold Co., also in Rockland and at the time of her retirement she worked at the West Pine Window Co. in Hanover. Wife of the late Henry L. Shortall, she is survived by her son, Larry Shortall of Rockland; her daughter, Mary Hansbury of N.H.; her granddaughters, Laisee Schipper, Laura McCormick and Anne Hansbury; her grandsons, Lee Shortall and Jeffrey Hansbury; along with her great-grandsons, Aaron and Logan Schipper; and great-granddaughter, Kyleigh Schipper. She was also the sister of Jean Wood, Richard Franzen and Frederick Franzen. The family welcomes friends and loved ones to celebrate her life at the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union St., Rockland, Friday, December 19, 2014, from 5-8 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. at the funeral home on Saturday, December 20, 2014. Simpson, Francis J.  
Francis J. Frank Simpson of Abington and Naples, Fla., died Wednesday, November 19. He was the beloved husband of the late Elizabeth Betty (McInnis) Simpson. He is survived by his children, Debbie Hall and Lisa Simpson both of Mashpee and Steven Simpson of Maine. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Katie Comis and her husband Dave of Abington, Ashley Hyland of Conn., and Shannon Robinson of Maine; and four great-granddaughters. Frank was much loved by his nieces and nephews as well as his many great-nieces and nephews. His services will be held Monday, December 22, at 8:15 a.m. from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 at the rotary), Whitman, followed by a 9 a.m. Mass in Saint Bridget Church, Abington. Burial will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, Rockland. Sprague, Gary S.  
Gary S. Spudge Sprague, age 63, passed away at Guardian Center in Brockton on Friday, December 19, 2014. Spudge is survived by his father, Harry F. Sprague Sr. and his wife Margaret of Vermont; his mother, Betty Anne Kingsbury of Athol; his 2 brothers, Harry F. Sprague Jr. and his wife Patricia of Weymouth and Paul Sprague and his partner Ellen Delorey of Brockton. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins and uncles. Gary was born and grew up in Weymouth, graduated from Weymouth High School in 1969 and lived in Abington for the last 25 years. He was a lifelong self-employed contractor and served his country in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. Visiting hours will be at the C.C. Sullivan, John P.  
John Paul Sullivan, of Avon, formerly of Randolph, passed away Dec. 16, surrounded by his loving family. He was 87 years old. John was born, raised, and educated in Randolph. After graduating from Stetson High School, John joined the US Navy at the end of WWII. In 1952, he was drafted into the Army during the Korean War. John later was a Randolph Fire Fighters for 30 years. During this time, he became one of the founding fathers of the Little League in Randolph and lost every game his first year coaching. This did not stop him from doing what he loved. John went on to coach boys and girls in baseball, softball, and basketball; coached Babe Ruth; umpired Little League, High School, and College; became equipment manager for Pop Warner Football; and eventually coached girls softball for the high school. To honor him for his service, the Little League complex in Randolph was named the John P. Sullivan Softball/Baseball Complex. He was named Massachusetts Volunteer of the Year in 1992. After doing this for 48 years, he thought it was time to retire. John also drove for Rays Oil Company in Randolph for 40 years. Sully never gave up on his beloved Red Sox. Beloved husband of Ruth (Hayward) Sullivan. Loving father of John Sullivan and his wife Missy of N.H., Vicki Bombardier and her husband Ed of Duxbury, and Joe Sullivan and his wife Mary of Pembroke. Devoted brother of Edward Sullivan of Avon, Barbara Page of Quincy, Therese Sullivan of Randolph, and the late Joseph Sullivan, Mary Jones, Margaret Lewis, Grace Sullivan, and Ann Snow. Dear grandfather of Kayla, Collin, Nicole, Devin, Olivia, Sean, and Aidan. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Hurley Funeral Home, 134 So. Sullivan, Mary F.  
Mary Francis Sullivan of Hanson, formerly Somerville, 95, passed away from natural causes peacefully at her home, on Monday, December 15. Mary was the wife of the late Robert Sullivan; the mother of 10 children, Robert and Susan Sullivan of Plymouth, Richard and Patricia Gray of Front Royal, Va., Roberta and David Sullivan (deceased), Connie and Richard Sullivan (deceased), Mary McNally (deceased), Paul Sullivan and Allie Oliveira of Plymouth, William and Nancy Sullivan of Peabody, Joan (deceased) and Dan McMullen, Joseph Sullivan of Hanson, and Daniel and Dawn Sullivan of Brockton. Also survived by 25 grandchildren, including Kyle McMullen who lived with Mary the past year; and 29 great-grandchildren; and many other friends and extended family. Mary was also blessed with many angels as caretakers over the years, including, Martha Ea, Terry McDonough, and Susy Blakeman. Mary will be remembered for her unconditional love, continued kindness, forgiving soul, and contagious laughter. Behind every good man is a great woman. Mary was that great woman who stood beside her husband with encouragement, sacrifice and tremendous spirit to build a successful company they both could be proud of all while raising 10 children. Swanson, Patricia J.  
Patricia J. Swanson, of Abington, Dec. 15. Loving wife of 54 years to John Swanson; Loving mother of David Swanson of Burlington, Mass.; and Karen (Swanson) Matheson of Bridgewater, Mass.; loving grandmother of Emily, Matthew, Nora, Daniel, Joshua, and Jenna. Patricia lived in Abington for 43 years. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Abington. She worked as an executive secretary at Old Mr. Boston and then for 20 years at Watson Wyatt. Patricia enjoyed doing word puzzles and learning new jokes that she would tell to her family. Every year, Patricia enjoyed trips to visit her family in Florida and Nova Scotia, Canada. She enjoyed frequent cruises to the Caribbean and Bermuda. Visitation will be held Thursday, Dec. 18, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Quealy & Son Funeral Home, 116 Adams Street, Abington. Dorothy M. "Dottie" (Lemon) Tantillo of Weymouth, originally of Hough's Neck, died at home surrounded by her devoted family, December 15, 2014. Family was the center of Dottie's life. She was the wife of the late Willard Tantillo; loving mother of Linda Kelley, Robert Tantillo, Peggy Connors, Michael Tantillo, all of Weymouth, Lonnie Andrews of Randolph, Marie Tantillo of Middleboro, Pamela Morse of Hingham, Richard Tantillo of Weymouth and Lisa Riley of Abington; sister of Barbara Morrissey of Conn., and the late Robert, Herbert, Arthur, and Richard Lemon. Also lovingly survived by 20 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 5 great great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
