Alexander P. "Sandy" Farquhar, age 87, of Quincy, formerly of Dorchester, passed away Monday, December 3, 2012 at the Quincy Medical Center. He was born in Boston and was raised in Codman Square. He has lived in Quincy since 1976, first on Hospital Hill for many years and recently at the Allerton House in Quincy. He served in the U.S. Navy
during World War II
as a pharmacists mate and participated in the D-Day invasion on an LST transport. After the war, he courted and married Catherine Bourke. They lived on Richfield Street on Meeting House Hill in Dorchester, where they raised their son, Stephen John Farquhar. They were members of St. Peters Parish and were active in the St. Peters CYO Band. Sandy was employed as district sales manager for the drug manufacturer, A. H. Robbins, where he worked until his retirement. In retirement, Sandy served on the City of Quincys Council on Aging. He was also an active member of Saint John the Baptist Church in Quincy and the South Shore YMCA. Beloved husband of Catherine Kay (Bourke) Farquhar. Devoted father of Stephen John Farquhar and his wife Elizabeth of Phoenix, AZ. Loving grandfather of Stephen John Farquhar Jr. of San Diego, CA, Alison Lee Farquhar of Quincy and Andrew Alexander Farquhar of Phoenix, AZ. Dear brother-in-law of Theresa Lane and her husband Paul of Milton. Uncle of Virginia Flannery of Winsor, CT, Paul Farquhar of Quincy, William Farquhar of Avon, CT, Peter Farquhar of Claremont, CA, Paul Lane of Wellesley Hills, Gregory Lane of Milton and David Gilligan of Boston. Funeral from the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, Friday, December 7th at 9 a.m. Funeral Mass in Saint John the Baptist Church, 44 School Street, Quincy at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
