David MacMillan

David MacMillan, of Quincy, age 75, died peacefully, Sunday, October 13, 2013 at the Massachusetts General Hospital. He was born in Boston, raised and educated in Quincy schools and was a graduate of Quincy High School, Class of 1956. David was proud to be a lifelong Houghs Neck resident of Quincy. He was employed for many years with the City of Quincys Park Department and retired in 2011. David was well known throughout Quincy as a base- ball coach. He coached for forty-nine years and his teams included the Houghs Neck American Legion Baseball team and teams in the Quincy Babe Ruth League. During his career, he also coached at Quincy High School, North Quincy High School, for the Quincy American Legion Post 95 and with the Wollaston American Legion team. He received numerous awards including the Houghs Neck Community Council Outstanding Service Award in 1969 and in 2009 two awards recognizing his forty-nine years of coaching in the City of Quincy. In 1967 he helped found a youth center in the basement of the Houghs Neck Legion Post home and in 1969 became the director of the Sgt. Lawrence Grenham Youth Center in Houghs Neck. He was also a longtime member of the Houghs Neck Community Council. Beloved son of the late Francis A. & Marion G. (Pollard) MacMillan. Devoted brother of Marion G. Chamberlain of Rockland, Ruth C. Fee and her husband Thomas of Belmont, NH and the late Francis MacMillan. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Funeral from the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, Thursday, October 17th at 9 a.m. Funeral Mass in Holy Trinity Parish at the Most Blessed Sacrament Church, corner of Sea and Darrow Street, Quincy at 10 oclock.
