Fred R. Mackey

Fred R. Mackey, age 88, died on February 19, 2014 at the Plymouth Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. He was the beloved husband of the late Dolores (Reckard) Mackey who died on December 23, 2013. He was the loving father of Robert Walter Mackey of Nebraska and Linda F. Mackey and her husband Attorney Lloyd Rosenberg of Plymouth. Fred was also the cherished grandfather of Shalon, Alicia, Jeremy and Kendra and great-grandfather of Adalind. Born in Atlantic City, NJ, June 27, 1926, he was the son of the late Robert and Mary (De Mayo) Mackey. Fred enlisted in the U.S. Navy during WWII at a young age, served 4 years as a Shipfitter, First Class USNR on the amphibious ship the USS Achelous. He participated in 7 landing operations and received numerous medals for his dedicated service. After the war, he worked as a self-employed contractor. Fred and Dolores moved to Plymouth from Haddon Heights, N.J. 15 years ago. A member of the V.F.W., he enjoyed reading and keeping up with world news, crossword puzzles, swimming, sports and doing home improvements and repairs. Visitation will take place Saturday March 1, 2014 at the Cartmell Funeral Home, 150 Court St., Plymouth from 11 to 12 pm., followed by a funeral service at 12 pm.
