James V. Gambino, age 82, formerly of Rockland and Quincy, died peacefully, Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at the Southwood at Norwell Nursing Center, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Quincy, raised and educated in Quincy schools and was a graduate of Quincy High School. He had lived in Norwell for two years, previously in Rockland for twelve years and earlier in Quincy for most of his life. Jim was the owner and operator of Jimbos Cafe in Weymouth for thirty-five years. He retired in 2000. He served in the U.S. Navy
in the late 1940s. James was a former member of the Torre dei Passeri Social Club of Quincy. He enjoyed golf and was an avid Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan. Beloved husband for fifty-eight years of Clare A. (Johnston) Gambino, he was the devoted father of Dean M. Gambino and his wife Vickie of Weymouth, James V. Gambino Jr. of Brockton, and the late Joan C. Gambino; loving grandfather of Kristin, Michael, Nicholas, Anthony, and Nina; cherished great-grandfather of Keryn; dear brother of Josephine Nicastro of Quincy and the late Joseph J. Gambino. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Ave., Quincy, Saturday, March 23, at 11 Oclock. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours Friday 4-7 p.m. Interment with military honors will take place at Blue Hill Cemetery in Braintree at a later date.
