John D. Dalton

John D. Dalton of Plymouth, formerly of Yarmouth, Maine, died Dec. 16, at Jordan Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Barbara (Adams) Amiro Dalton. Loving father of John Dalton Jr., Dennis Dalton and wife Maria, Katy Gilblair and husband Dennis, and Judith Dalton all of Maine, John Sheehan of Andover, Stephen Sheehan and wife Karla of Plymouth, and Diane Dixon and husband Jon of Ellicott City, Md. John cherished his 15 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He cherished the moments spent with his wife Barbaras children, Jane Bongiovanni and husband John, Nancy Agnew and husband David, John Amiro and wife Vicky and their families. Beloved brother of Margaret Stapleton and her husband Donald of Canton. John was predeceased by wife Joan Cernada Dalton and beloved brother Robert Dalton. John was born in Lynn, to the late Dennis and Margaret (Roache) Dalton. John graduated from Boston English and joined the U.S. Coast Guard, serving during the Korean conflict. John was a longtime lobster fisherman out of Plymouth Harbor for many years later moving to Yarmouth, Maine, where he served as harbormaster for the town of Falmouth, Maine. He was a former police officer in Washington D.C. and Falmouth, Maine. He served as president of the Harbormasters Association for the state of Maine for many years. After retirement, John could be seen visiting any harbor along the cost of New England with his copilot Ginger, his beloved dog. His passion was the sea. Visiting hours at Cartmell Funeral Home, 150 Court Street, Plymouth, Friday, Dec. 20, from 4-7 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, at Saint Peters Catholic Church in Plymouth. Burial at Vine Hills Cemetery.
