John E. McHugh Jr.

John Edward McHugh Jr., 70, died May 19, 2013, at an Ellsworth hospital. He was born Jan. 8, 1943, in Boston, the son of John E. and Elizabeth M. (Conran) McHugh Sr. Ed graduated from Boston College High School, Class of 1960, and attended Boston College, St. Anselms College and Northeastern University. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, and was honorably discharged in 1971. Ed began his career as a flight instructor and charter pilot for Wiggins Airways in Norwood, Mass. He then entered the banking industry specializing in aircraft financing and commercial lending. He worked for Boston Capital beginning in 1994, and for the past 15 years, as the Senior Underwriter. He married Christine Anderson in 1997 and they moved to Maine together. He is survived by his daughter, Cara M. McHugh Avila and husband Craig; grandson, Ryan Avila, all of Pascoag, R.I.; brothers, Richard and wife Susan of Pembroke, Mass., Ronald and wife Janice of Florida, Stephen and wife Joanne of Bridgewater, Mass.; sisters, Donna Tilley and husband Robert of York, Betty Jane Colligan and partner Keith Rabine of Sandwich, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews. Ed was predeceased by his beloved wife Christine A. McHugh on June 28, 2011; a sister, Paula Page. Calling hours will be held 4-6 p.m., Thursday, May 23, 2013, at JordanFernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth. A graveside service for family and close friends will be held 1 p.m., Friday at Riverside Cemetery, Hancock, with Rev. Sara H. Huisjen officiating.
