John P. Marella

John P. Marella, a lifelong resident of Quincy, died Tuesday Jan. 1, at Quincy Medical Center. He was 92 years old and the beloved husband of the late Assunta Sue (Papia) Marella for 67 years. Born in Quincy on May 28, 1920, he was the loving son of the late Francesco and Maria (Quastamacchia) Marella. Mr. Marella served in the United States Army as a Sargent during WWII and in the Battle of the Bulge. He worked for Raytheon Corp. in Quincy where he retired in 1985 after 35 years of service. He was a lifetime member and former Venerable of the Quincy Sons of Italy, member of the Holy Name Society and Usher at St. Josephs Parish. Mr. Marella was the loving father of Marie Ward and her husband Kier of Weymouth, Grace Keaveny and her husband Brian of Salem, NH and Angela Kemp and her husband Alan of Middleboro. He was the cherished grandfather of Paul Marrone of Raynham, Dean Marrone , his wife Elyse and children Alex and Joshua of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Melissa Marrone of Weymouth, Christine Conover, her husband William and children Ryan and Sean of Somers Point, NJ, Susan Keaveny of London England, David Keaveny, his wife Bryn and their daughter Keira of Portsmouth, NH, Theresa Bell , her husband Ryan and children Lila and Kenzy of Mesa, AZ, John Kemp of Plymouth, Jason Kemp of Quincy, Peter Kemp and his wife Jill of Whitman and Andrew Kemp of Middleboro. He was the dear brother of Andrew Marella and his wife Anne of Braintree, brother-in-law of Elsa Marella of Quincy and is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Bolea-Buonfiglio Funeral Home, 116 Franklin Street, Quincy on Monday, Jan. 7 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Josephs Church, 550 Washington Street in Quincy at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 2 - 4 p.m. and 6 - 8 p.m. Interment in Mt. Wollaston Cemetery.
