John Jack Stillman Sharkey, 88 years of age, of Braintree Highlands, entered Life Eternal at South Shore Hospital on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013. He was born in Boston and raised in Braintree. He graduated from Braintree High School Class of 1942. He subsequently received a Bachelors Degree and Master of Business Administration Degree from Northeastern University. He had been employed as an accountant with the Shell Oil Company, Dewey and Almy Company in Cambridge, the Howard Johnson Company in Wollaston, and General Dynamics Corp. at Fore River Ship Yard. During WWII he served with the Army Air Force and was a member of the 5th Bomb Group. Jack was an active parishioner at the Church of St. Clare since 1959. He was a member of the Mr. and Mrs. Club at the church and the Holy Name Society. He had served as a Braintree Town Meeting Member for seventeen years. He was the devoted and loving husband of Alba Pauline (Fraccastoro) Sharkey to whom he had been married for 61 years. He was the beloved father of Paula S. McDonough married to Paul McDonough of Henrico, VA, Kathleen Sharkey-Jordan married to Craig Jordan of Braintree, Susan Sharkey of Randolph, and John S. Sharkey of Braintree. He was the proud grandfather of Rebecca McDonough of Henrico, VA, Abigail Jordan of Braintree, Jennifer McDonough of Henrico, VA and Drew Jordan of Braintree. Jack was known as a generous, thoughtful, tender-hearted and gentle person. He was the brother of the late Marjorie and Lucille Sharkey. Visiting hours will be at the Mortimer N. Peck -Russell Peck Funeral Home, 516 Washington Street, on Sunday, Oct. 27, from 4 - 7 p.m. There will be a gathering at the funeral home on Monday, Oct. 28, at 9 a.m. to be followed by a funeral Mass in the Church of St. Clare, 1244 Liberty Street, Braintree at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Blue Hill Cemetery. I worked with Jack at Howard Johnson Compamy on Newport Ave. Quincy in 1965.
Jack, was one of my early mentors and a very nice man. I remember Jack work with me to learn the 10 key adding machine.
