R. Beryl (Smith) Dalton, age 95, of Quincy, formerly of Zephyrhills, Florida, died peacefully, Friday, April 11, 2014, surrounded by her daughter, Sherry, and many loving friends. Beryl was born in Brooklyn, New York and raised and educated in Brooklyn and Baldwin, Long Island. She was an Honors graduate of Baldwin High School, Class of 1936. Beryl had lived in Quincy for the past twelve years, previously in Zephyrhills, Fla. for over twenty-five years, and earlier in New York. As a young woman, she worked as a full charge bookkeeper in a chemical plant. After marrying her late husband, Alfred, in 1941, she left work to tend to her young family in Baldwin and Bellmore on Long Island. Later in life, Beryl returned to work as an office manager at a plumbing supply house. Beryl and her late husband were active volunteers for thirty years at Camp Taconic in New York, which was affiliated with their church, the Church of the Nazarene. They were both recognized for their dedicated commitment to the camp. Beryl was an avid writer, poet, and calligrapher. She loved Gospel music and enjoyed singing, having sung many solos in the church choir as a young girl. She loved to go to the J.O.Y. Group at First Presbyterian Church where she attended. Beloved wife of the late J. Alfred Dalton. Devoted mother of Nancy Lee Stone and her husband Fredric of Bluffton, South Carolina, Sherry L. Dalton of Quincy, and the late John Alfred Dalton III. Graveside Services will be conducted at the Oak Side Cemetery in Zephyrhills, Florida at a later date.
