Rita M. Cotter

Rita M. (Lang) Cotter died Sunday morning, Oct. 27, 2013, in Concord, N.H., after a brief illness. Her daughter, Julie, and her sons, Christopher and Gregory, were at her side. For the past 6 years, she lived with her daughter Julie and her husband at their home in N.H. Mrs. Cotter was born in Holbrook, Mass., daughter of the late Albert and Julia (Quinn) Lang. She attended Holbrook schools and graduated from Bridgewater State Teachers College. She married Atty. Robert J. Cotter of Abington, Mass., in 1941. She taught school briefly before joining her husband at Fort Belvoir in Virginia where he was stationed during World War II. The couple returned to the area after the war where Atty. Cotter established a law practice in Rockland, Mass., and their home in Abington, Mass. Wife of the late Robert J. Cotter, she is survived by her children, Julia Cotter of Bow, N.H., Brian Cotter of Stamford, Conn., Christopher Cotter of Sandwich, Mass., Gregory Cotter of Marshfield, Mass., and Barry Cotter of Jacksonville, Fla. Rita was predeceased by two sons, Shawn Cotter and Robert James Cotter. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Cotter lived for her family- her husband, her children, her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The family welcomes friends and loved ones to celebrate her life at the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union St., Rockland, Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at 8 a.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Bridgets Church, in Abington, at 9 a.m. Burial will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Abington. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Shawn P. Cotter Memorial Foundation, c/o the Abington Bank, Abington, MA.
