Virginia E. Putnam

Virginia (Ginger) Eve Putnam, age 44, of Brunswick, Maine died on Sept. 26, surrounded by her loving family, after a long battle with breast cancer. First diagnosed with Hodgkins lymphoma at age 14, Ginger inspired everyone who knew her with her spirit of life, courage, and determination in her 30 year fight against cancer. She is survived by her son, Bradford Leaman of Brunswick and her devoted life partner Bob Siff of Brunswick. Ginger is also survived by her father John L. Putnam and his wife, Ann Crowley of Pembroke; her mother, Sandra Putnam-Franklin of Marshfield ; her brother, Jeffrey L. Putnam and his wife, Tina, of Pembroke; her brother, Daniel J. Putnam of Humarock; nieces, Taylor Marie and Courtney Ann Ginger Putnam of Pembroke; a step-brother, many step-sisters, aunts, uncles and cousins. Ginger grew up in Scituate, and attended Scituate Public Schools. She was a 1988 graduate of Monmouth Academy in Monmouth, Maine, and a 1993 graduate of the University of Maine- Orono, School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse and prior to her illness worked as a labor and delivery nurse, NICU nurse and birthing coach. It gave her great joy to assist in bringing new life into the world. She was an active parent in Brunswicks youth athletic organizations and attended many of her sons sporting events. For many years, during the summer months, Ginger worked at Camp Laurel South in Casco, Maine. Most recently, Ginger worked with Bob to realize their lifelong dream of establishing their own summer camp, the New England Golf Camp at Sunday River. Friends and family may visit 12 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013 at the Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal Street, Brunswick, ME. A memorial service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
