Sandra Johnson Obituary

Sandra Irene Johnson, 63, of Canton, formerly of Avon and Simsbury, Conn., died Nov. 7, 2013. The eldest child of Norman and Alice Johnson, Sandra, known as Sandy to those who loved her, was born March 26, 1950 in Providence, R.I., and grew up in Paxton. She attended Paxton Center School and graduated from Wachusett Regional High School in Holden. She graduated from Wagner College on Staten Island, N.Y., majoring in English and Spanish, and earned an MBA from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Sandy worked in Human Resources, specializing in compensation and benefits for insurance and international companies. She was most recently employed at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. Sandy was an avid reader and expert knitter. She will be remembered for her love and generosity to her family, her patience and devotion to rescue dogs, and her beautiful knitted garments. Sandy is survived by her parents, Alice and Norman; her siblings, Janet, Donna and Norman; her nieces and nephews, Ryan, Tressa, Chapman, Nora, Norman and Kristen; her six great-nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Mandy. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at the Pilgrim Covenant Church, 605 Salmon Brook St., Granby, Conn., followed by burial in Simsbury Cemetery, Simsbury, Conn. The family will receive friends Friday, Nov. 15, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Hayes Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook St., Granby, Conn. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations be sent to the New England Seafarers Mission, 1 Black Falcon Avenue, Boston, MA 02210, or the Buddy Dog Humane Society, 151 Boston Post Road, Sudbury, MA 01776.
