Alice M. Walker Obituary
Alice Mary Herlihy Walker, born January 8, 1941, in Boston, passed in her home surrounded by her family on July 7, 2018, after a battle with cancer, at age 77. She was the wife of 58 years to David Raymond Walker. Alice was the 2nd of 6 children of John Joseph Herlihy and Evangeline McMichael Herlihy. She was the mischievous one of the bunch, yet she was also the person who would drop everything to help anyone in need. Raised in Newton and Watertown, she was a 1958 graduate of Watertown High School and later attended Burdett Secretarial School. She was crowned the First Miss Watertown in 1957. Alice had a terrific sense of humor; her laugh was recognizable and contagious. The Walker household was always the place to be. Alice had wanted to be a wife and mother more than anything. She married David Walker, her high school sweetheart, together they had 4 children, devoted mother to Cheryl Salmon and her husband Stephen of Napa, CA, Michael Walker and his wife Susan of Duxbury, David Walker and his wife Amanda of Hingham, and Kathleen Becker and her husband Richard of Duxbury; cherished grandmother to 13 grandchildren, Lauren Orrick, Colleen and Ryan Salmon, all of Napa, CA, Emily, Garrett, Sara and Trent Walker of Duxbury, Alexandra, Brady and Henry Walker of Hingham, Katelyn and Andrew Thomas and Nora Becker of Duxbury. Also survived by her siblings, Joan (Herlihy) Kilcoyne of Wayland, Mary (Herlihy) Russo of Watertown, Linda (Herlihy) Placidi of Norfolk, John Herlihy of Waltham and David Herlihy of Newton; and many nieces and nephews. Any donations should be made to Cranberry Hospice, c/o Beth Israel Hospital, 275 Sandwich St., Plymouth, MA 02360. Her family would like to thank the amazing women who cared for Alice and treated her with incredible empathy, respect and kindness. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, July 15, 2018, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street (Rte. 139), in Marshfield.
