Arthur H. Ahola Obituary
Arthur H. Ahola, 83 of New Bedford, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2014. He was the beloved husband of Janet R. (Valentine) Ahola. He was born in Quincy to the late Charles and Selina (Raiski) Ahola. Arthur was an awesome baking instructor at Silver Lake Regional High School for 26 years until his retirement. He worked in his parents bakery in Quincy "Ted's Home Bakery" and also taught baking in the G.N.B.V.T. summer program. When Arthur wasnt baking, he was a Jack of All Trades. He enjoyed repairing automobiles, fishing, cooking, and was an avid Bruins fan. He coached youth hockey, loved playing the piano and the accordion, and was very devoted to his family. Arthur was a U.S. Army veteran, earning the rank of Sergeant during the Korean War. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, the United Nations Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. He was a DAV life member. Arthur was a Master Mason member of Rural Lodge A.F. & A.M. in Quincy for 59 years and was also a member of Star in the East Lodge A.F. & A.M. in New Bedford. He served as vice-president of the Finnish American Society of Cape Cod. In addition to his wife, survivors include his six children, Joanne, Jane, James, Karen, David, and Jeffrey Ahola, his sister Martha Robinson, ten grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his seven siblings and son John Jack Ahola. His funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at 9 a.m. in the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. Interment with military honors will follow in MA National Cemetery, Bourne. Visiting hours, Monday, May 5, 2014, 5 - 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arthur Ahola Memorial Fund c/o Webster Bank, 974 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, MA 02745.
