Elizabeth M. Betty (Smith) Crandlemere of Holbrook, longtime resident of Holbrook, passed away March 28, 2013, at the age of 91. Daughter of the late Everett and Dorothy (Goodwin) Smith. Wife of the late Robert W. Crandlemere. Loving mother of R. Wayne Crandlemere and his wife Cynthia of Holbrook and the late Janet E. Hevey. Devoted sister of the late Donald Smith, Alden C. Smith, Douglas G. Smith, Loraine Cole, Constance Keller, and Kenneth A. Smith. The oldest girl in her family, Betty helped her mother raise her younger siblings. Betty was called Mana by her 4 granddaughters, Donna Marie Amado, Raina Lee Alves, Kristen Elizabeth Abbott, and Cheryl Elizabeth Stibel; 8 great-grandchildren, Benjamin Schwartz, Monica Alves, Samantha Alves, Faith Amado, Lincoln Stibel, Dennett Stibel, Delilah Abbott, and Cecelia Abbott; and many nieces and nephews. Betty was born in Holbrook, grew up in Braintree, and was a graduate of Braintree High School. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother as well as an accomplished artist. She loved her family, ice cream, traveling, and shoveling snow. As a young girl, she loved gymnastics as do her great-granddaughters. Reposing at the Cartwright Funeral Home, 69 So. Franklin Street, (Rte. 37) Holbrook. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 4, at 11 a.m. in the Holbrook United Methodist Church. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Wednesday 2 | 4 and 7 | 9 p.m. Burial in Union Cemetery, Holbrook. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the , 1701 North Beauregard St., Alexandria, VA 22311.
