Helga (Kuhlmey) Rhind of Avon, formerly of Scituate and Cohasset, died August 3, 2018, at the age of 86. Helga was raised and educated in Berlin, Germany, and came to the United States in 1953. Helga enjoyed classical music and was especially fond of Beethoven and Tchaikovsky. She loved to garden, cook, read, crosswords, and never missed Jeopardy. She loved all animals and was known to take in many under her protective wing over the years. She was an avid supporter of animal rights and protection. Daughter of the late Erich Kuhlmey and Hildegard Kuhlmey (Papke) of Berlin, Germany, wife of the late James M. Rhind, Mrs. Rhind is survived by her brother, Juergen Kuhlmey and his wife Margit of Sun City Center, Florida; and her loving children, James E. Rhind and his wife Karen of Marshfield, Barbara A. Rhind and her fiance Robert Tocchio of North Weymouth, and Jeffrey A. Rhind, husband of the late Shannon, of Bridgewater. She also leaves behind five grandchildren, Kate Tucker (Danico) of Delaware, James Erich Rhind Jr. of Marshfield, Jessica E. Rhind of Plymouth, Jeffrey A. Rhind Jr. of Bridgewater, and Natalya Rhind of Bridgewater; and one great-grandchild Danielle Dubois of Delaware; and also her beloved basset hound, Mya. A brief ceremony will be held at her inurnrment at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, on August 14, at 11:15 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her honor to the MSPCA or any animal shelter of choice.
