John J. DiPietro, Captain, Quincy Fire Department, Retired, age 85, a lifelong Quincy resident, died peacefully, Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at the Quincy Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. John was born in Quincy, raised and educated in Quincy schools and was a graduate of Quincy High School, Class of 1946. He was a longtime parishioner of Saint Josephs Parish in Quincy. He was a Korean War veteran having proudly served in the U.S. Navy as an Electricians Mate 1/c aboard the USS Palau, CVE 122 and received the Korean Service Medal. John was a Captain with the Quincy Fire Department. He was appointed to the Fire Department on October 22, 1960. He was promoted to Lieutenant on September 2, 1967 and to Captain on July 28, 1979. At the time of his retirement, he was assigned to Engine 7 in Squantum. John was also an electrician. He enjoyed golf and had a talent and a passion for calligraphy. He was a member of the Cyril P. Morrisette American Legion Post #294, the Torre dei Passeri Social Club and the South Quincy Bocce Club. Beloved husband for fifty-eight years of Gladys R. (Kyller) DiPietro Devoted father of Robert J. DiPietro of Melrose, Richard J. DiPietro of Braintree, Randi M. Ives of Bridgewater, Russ J. DiPietro of Quincy, Rosann Naclerio of Scituate and John R. DiPietro of Reading. He is survived by thirteen cherished grandchildren. Brother of Enio DiPietro of North Andover and Mary DePolo of Quincy. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, Monday, March 3rd at 9 a.m. Funeral Mass in Saint Josephs Church, 550 Washington, Street, Quincy at 10 oclock to be followed by Military Honors. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours at the funeral home Sunday 2 | 6 p.m. At the request of the family, interment will be private.
