John Joseph "JJ" Joyce, age 87, of Plymouth, died peacefully June 26, 2013, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Brockton. He was the husband of 64 years to the late Marguerite Rita (McMorrow) Joyce. John was born in Boston, March 15, 1926, the only child of Nora and Martin Joyce. Love of his hometown Southie often caused him to breakout in song. He was a graduate of Boston Latin, joined the Navy at 17, and was a Purple Heart recipient. His lifelong affiliation with newspapers started with the Record American, The Herald, and ending with the Cape Cod Times. He taught graphic arts at Southeastern Vocational Institute until his retirement. He was a member of St. Bonaventures Church, Manomet. He attended to the spiritual needs of the sick at Jordan Hospital, and the confined at Plymouth House of Corrections. He enjoyed the love of his seven children, Kathleen Rogers of Onset, Noreen Labadie of Abington, Maureen McMahon of Plymouth, with whom he made his home, Geraldeen Dunphy of Milford, John J. Joyce Jr. of Bridgewater, N.H., Martin G. Joyce of Bourne, and Eileen Clark of Warren, N.H. He was the grandfather to 17; and great-grandfather to 22. A visitation will be held at the Cartmell Funeral Home, 150 Court St., Plymouth, Friday, June 28, from 4 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held the following day at St. Bonaventures Church in Manomet, at 9 a.m. Burial will follow in the Holy Hood Cemetery in Brookline.
