Rita Ann (Hartman) Nichols, 87 years of age, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014 at the Baypointe Nursing Facility in Brockton. Rita was born at Buffalo, New York. She received a Bachelors Degree from the University of Buffalo in the field of accounting. Rita participated with her mother in the operation of Hartmans Restaurant in Buffalo where she was known as the Hostess with the Mostess. She was employed in the accounting field for most of her working career. Rita attended the First Congregational Church in Braintree, the German Club in Walpole, the Braintree Womens Club and the William B. Rice Eventide Home Auxiliary as well as being a volunteer at the Elihu White Nursing Facility in Braintree. Rita loved her family and enjoyed entertaining. She brought a smile to all she met and she never had a bad word for anyone. Rita was the beloved wife of the late Richard T. Nichols who died in 2002. She was the devoted mother of Julie Ann Nichols of Brookline and Katharine Helen Cosgrove married to Michael Cosgrove of Easton. She was the loving grandmother of Alexandria H. Nichols of Brookline, Nicole A. Cosgrove and Sean M. Cosgrove of Easton, Melissa A. Cosgrove of Santa Monica, CA and Jennifer L. Cosgrove of Yonkers, N.Y. She was the sister of the late George Hartman and daughter of the late Alphonse and Anna (Schreiber) Hartman. Visiting hour will be at the Mortimer N. Peck-Russell Peck Funeral Home, 516 Washington St., Braintree on Friday, Jan. 17, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. to be followed by a funeral service at 1:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
