Roger T. Connor, of Milton, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012. He was 85. Much loved husband of 60 years to Kathleen (Carroll). Devoted father to Eileen (Callahan), Roger Jr., Kevin and Daniel. Cherished grandfather of Kathleen, Maggie and Elizabeth (Callahan) of New Jersey; Narise, Roger III and Liam Connor of New York; Christopher Connor of Texas; and Daniel Jr., Megan and John Connor of Rhode Island. Adored great grandfather of Emily, Joseph and Charles (Cotter) of Rhode Island. He is survived by his sisters: Helen Lohan of Milton, Mary and Ethel Connor of Dorchester. Roger was born and raised in Dorchesters St. Gregorys Parish. He attended Boston College High School, served in the Navy during WWII and, thanks to the GI Bill, graduated Boston College in 1952. He lived in Avon and in 1966 settled in Milton. Roger was a life-long educator beginning a 40-year career teaching mathematics at Northeastern University. He also taught in the City of Boston school system at Boston Technical and Girls Latin. He moved into school administration as principal of Jamaica Plain High School, then moved over to Milton High School as principal there from 1971 until 1982. Roger finished his teaching career in 1994 after teaching mathematics for 13 years at Milton Academy. Actively involved in with Boston Colleges Alumni Association, Roger was renowned for the class trips he and Kathleen would organize for his classmates. Together they travelled the world, from Ireland to Europe to Hong Kong to Beijing, New Zealand, Australia, Hawaii and Alaska, Central America, Africa and many points in between. At home, Roger was equally active in the community, serving as a Milton Town Meeting member for 40-years and as member and past-president of the Milton Democratic Town Club. He volunteered with Meals-On-Wheels, the Council of Aging and South Shore Elder Services. He was a Milton Hospital corporation member and, along with Kathleen, 20-year Milton Hospital volunteers. And even into his 80s, Roger could be found three mornings every week leading early morning walks at the Milton High School track. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Agatha Church, Brook Road at Adams Street, Milton, on Tuesday, Nov. 20, at 10:30 a.m. Visitation in Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite St., East Milton, will be on Monday, Nov. 19, from 3 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rogers name may be sent to Friends of Milton Hospital or St. Agatha Church Development Fund.
