Marion Ruth Waddell, age 97, died peacefully Jan. 31, 2014, in Augusta, Maine. A retired registered nurse, Marion was born in Randolph, Mass., Aug. 4, 1916. She was the daughter of the late George and Fannie (O'Connor) Warford, the sixth of eight children and the last to pass. Marion graduated from the High School of Practical Arts in Roxbury, Mass., the Booth Memorial Hospital in Boston, graduating as an LPN, and Massasoit Community College in Brockton, Mass., graduating on the Dean's List as a registered nurse. During her long career as a nurse, Marion worked as a scrub nurse and anesthetist in the delivery room, a floor nurse in hospitals and at the Jessie MacDougal nursing home in Scituate and as a private duty nurse in homes throughout the South Shore. Married to a military officer, she lived in Georgia, North Carolina, California and Japan. She lived in Scituate from 1956-2006. There she was an active member of the Order of Eastern Star and a member of the First Trinitarian Congregational Church. She then moved to Litchfield, Maine, to live with her son Tom and his wife, Marilyn Dunn. Marion is survived by her daughters, Donna English of Suffolk, Va., Tom Waddell and his wife Marilyn Dunn of Litchfield, Maine, and Linda Waddell of Wareham, Mass. Her son, David Waddell passed away in 2005. Marion is also survived by six grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and 3 great great-grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held at the Richardson-Gaffy Funeral Home, 382 1st Parish Rd., Scituate, Monday, Feb. 10, 4-7 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the funeral home Tuesday, Feb. 11, at 10 a.m.
