Rose P. Sawyer Obituary
Rose P. (Peckham) Sawyer, 95 years of age, passed away at the Continuing Care Facility at Linden Ponds on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014. Rose resided in Braintree for 45 years before moving to Linden Ponds in 2005. She was born in Norwich, Conn. and received her education at the Norwich Free Academy and at the University of Connecticut. Rose, in earlier years had been employed as an Executive Secretary having worked for Frank Remick, founder of the former Remicks Department Store in Quincy and also for the R.T. French Company of Quincy. She was also was employed as an Executive Secretary for the Braintree Public School System. She had a wonderful singing voice and she sang with the Braintree Choral Society, the Weymouth Fine Arts Chorale, and the Broad Cove Chorale in Hingham. She also sang at the Old South Union Congregational Church in South Weymouth and at the South Congregational Church in South Braintree. Rose had been a volunteer serving as an English tutor with the English as a Second Language group. She read books and stories for the blind at radio station WATD in Marshfield. She also read to the children at the Hollis School in Braintree. In addition, she had been active in local affairs and was a former election worker. She was the beloved wife of the late Richard V. Sawyer who was a coach and teacher at Thayer Academy in Braintree. He died in 2010. She was the devoted mother of John V. Sawyer married to Martha Sawyer of Scituate, Margaret S. Stub of Holbrook, and Beverly S. Carter married to Roger Carter of Lebanon, ME. She was the devoted grandmother of Andrew Stub of Shrewsbury, Michael Stub of Whitman and Katrina Stub of Holbrook. A memorial service will be held at the Old South Union Congregational Church, 25 Columbian Street, South Weymouth on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014 at 2 p.m. The Reverend Jennifer Barrett Siegal will officiate.
