Effie (Moses) Michael, a longtime Marshfield resident, died April 3, 2014, at the age of 95. She was the beloved wife of Dr. George A. Michael, who died in 1990. She is survived by her four children, Claire Michael Roht Ditommaso of Duxbury, Dr. George T. Michael of Salem, N.H., Gail Michael Chmura of Springfield, Va., and Lucille Michael Morrell of Marshfield. She also leaves 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Effie was born in Boston and graduated from Boston Girls High School in 1935. Her family lived in Boston and Dorchester before moving to Marshfield in 1953. Effie was well known in the Marshfield Community, where she raised her family and volunteered in Marshfield schools. After her children graduated high school, she went to work at Pharmacity and volunteered at the Daniel Webster Elementary School in Marshfield and Cardinal Cushing School in Hanover. She was a seamstress in her earlier years, and after her husband of 50 years passed away, she joined her daughter, Lou, at the Bag Lady, making draperies. Effies hobbies were sewing, knitting, crocheting, bowling and bridge. She belonged to several bridge groups at the Marshfield and Duxbury Senior Centers as well as private homes. She was a lifelong member of the Red Sox Nation, being born in 1918, the year of the World Series that haunted the Red Sox until 2004. Effie enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was one of seven children who have all predeceased her. A viewing will be held Sunday, April 6, 2014, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street, Marshfield. Funeral services will be held at the St. George Orthodox Church, 55 Emmonsdale Rd., West Roxbury, Monday, April 7, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Couch Cemetery on Union Street, Marshfield.
