Robert H. Evans Jr. Obituary
Robert H. Evans Jr., of Quincy, age 61, April 14, 2014. The beloved husband of Catherine (Lawrence) Evans of South Boston. He was born in Syracuse, N.Y. and the son of the late Robert and Bernadine (Dillon) Evans. Bob was a Locomotive Engineer for 44 years and started his career in Syracuse. He worked in freight service for 7 years then moved to Boston in 1977. He worked for Penn Central, B & M, CSX, Amtrak, and currently for Mass. Bay Commuter Rail. He worked his way up to being #1 on the seniority roster and forever loved his job. He was also a long standing member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. He was also involved in the N.Y. State Divers Assoc. before moving to Boston. Here he was also a ski instructor at Blue Hills, and in Killington, Vt. on weekends for 18 years. He and his wife Cathy are very active members of the Metropolitan Yacht Club and loved to boat, fish, and socialize with many, many, dear friends at the club. Bob was also a member of the Elks Club and the Adam Heights Mens Club. Also using his creative ability and vast knowledge, he has been writing a novel over the past years. In addition to his wife Cathy of almost 8 years, who also works on the railroad for MBCR, Bob is survived by his brother Martin Evans and wife Candace of Bridgeport, N.Y. and their children Elizabeth, Edward, Zachary and wife Sarah. His sister Mary and husband Dennis Green of Pinehurst, N.C.; Cathys two sons, Sean Czolada with Justine Lavey and granddaughter Quinn of Braintree, Brian Czolada and wife Vanessa and grandson, Elli, of Tx. Also 6 wonderful nieces and nephews. Sisters-in-law Joan, Anne, brothers-in-law, John, Tom, and Jim and many dear relatives and friends. Bob fought without ever giving up his battle with blood cancer (Myelodysplastic Syndrome) by having 2 bone marrow transplants donated from his brother and sister. Funeral service will be held at Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home, 326 Granite Ave., Milton, Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Visiting hours will be at the Funeral Home Friday, 4 - 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Division of Development, 10 Brookline P.
